Will Turn 3 be the culprit at Phoenix?

Phoenix’ 1 mile flat track can provide its own brand of mayhem. During qualifying yesterday it looked like Turn 3 caused control issues for some drivers — lots of sliding around. It rained last night so the track will be green at the start so it could be interesting.

The grandstands are sold out and this is one of the cool tracks where the fans can spread a blanket on a precarious hillside — amongst cactus no less. Yikes! Must be an awesome view. I’d like to do the hillside thing one day — maybe at Sonoma. But I digress …

Who’s gonna win? Well Jimmie Johnson didn’t look so hot with his 28th starting position, but you can never count him out. The same is true for Kevin Harvick who quietly does his thing behind the wheel. As long as Harvick’s pit crew does its job today he could very well be a contender today. Nice seeing Kurt Busch looking good once again this week, starting in the second position (wish I had picked him for my Fantasy team!)

Crossing my fingers today for Bobby Labonte and my favorite driver Mark Martin. It would be very cool to see them run well today. So my picks: Carl Edwards; Mark Martin; Martin Truex and Bobby Labonte.

BTW … This track is due to be repaved and they are rebuilding it with some banking — only 10 degrees, but I’ll take it!
